Megan has been a practitioner of yoga for twenty years. She received her yoga teacher certification in Hatha Yoga and has taught yoga for the past four years in Portland, Oregon.
First studying Odissi dance at the Evergreen State College with Dr. Ratna Roy, Megan continued to study this style of Classical dance from India with Manasi Mishra in Michigan. Later, Megan attended graduate school for a Master's in dance at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, where she deepened her knowledge of Odissi dance.
Joining the Body Rhythm Dance Theater company in Detroit, Michigan after graduating from Evergreen State College, Megan trained with director Shirley Bryant in Horton technique as well as Dunham. She also took several master classes from dancers in the Alvin Ailey dance company.
Megan began studying Bellydance while living in Honolulu, Hawai'i. She studied under Kalae Kaina, a teacher of a bellydance style known as Tribal Fusion. As Kalae Kaina also studied Odissi dance with the same teacher as Megan, this bellydance style at times incorporates other dance styles such as Odissi as well as Flamenco.
Megan began her studies of Capoeira in Detroit, Michigan with Capoeira Mandinga of Detroit. She also gained experience with Samba, as well.
Megan began studying Javanese dance in her first year at the University of Michigan. It was this dance experience that made her fall in love with the art form. Studying dance with Yulisa Mastati, Megan also studied Javanese gamelan and puppet theater (Wayang Kulit) with Sigit Bin Soegito. Later on in graduate school for dance, Megan studied Balinese dance. The two styles are distinct yet share many similarities.
A competitive swimmer throughout childhood and high school, Megan also studied Lyrical dance and Ballet during her earlier years. She continued her studies in Ballet at Oakland University.
At the University of Michigan she took additional dance courses in West African dance, mainly from Guinea and Senegal, as well as Congolese dance with the reknowned teacher Biza. She was also able to took master classes in Haitian dance. After receiving her undergraduate degree, Megan was invited to join Body Rhythm Dance Theater, a dance company in Detroit, Michigan founded and run by Shirley Bryant that focused on both West African and Modern dance styles. There, she continued to gain experience in both West African and Congolese dance.
